Welcome to Pulaski County, Kentucky’s third largest geographical county comprised of 658.41 square miles and an estimated population of 63,000 and home to 2 marinas on beautiful Lake Cumberland. (many more marinas available on lake cumberland with two of them located in Pulaski county) Lake Cumberland is a point of destination for everyone to enjoy whether you enjoy water sports, fishing or simply relaxing in a secluded cove enjoying the scenery from a houseboat.

In addition to Lake Cumberland, Pulaski County boasts numerous recreational possibilities such as camping, hiking, bicycling, site seeing, Somersplash Water Park- over 20 acres of clean family fun, Somernites Cruise – a car lovers dream the 4th Saturday April-October, historic Mill Spring Battlefield and Visitor’s Center for the Civil War historian plus a large variety of events and festivals, including the Master Musicians Festival featuring local and national recording artists is held in July.

Location & Transportation
Somerset, situated on the northeastern edge of Lake Cumberland, is the county seat of Pulaski County. Somerset is 76 miles south of Lexington, Kentucky; 129 miles northwest of Knoxville, Tennessee; and 128 miles southeast of Louisville, Kentucky.

WATER:
Most folks come to Somerset and Pulaski County because the sparkling waters of Lake Cumberland are known as the “Houseboat Capital of the World.” But the best recreational lake in the country, according to USA Today’s 10Best.com, is also a place where friends and family can fish, play, and find cozy anchorages under sunny (or starry!) skies. Others come to visit “The Capital of Lake Cumberland” because this part of South-Central Kentucky is a vibrant, hospitable center of arts, crafts, culture, and shopping, with thriving restaurants and abundant live music in a revitalized downtown.

AIR:
 The Somerset-Pulaski County Airport, 2 miles south of Somerset. The nearest scheduled commercial airline service is available at Bluegrass Airport near Lexington, Kentucky, 76 miles north of Somerset. Lake Cumberland Regional Airport covers an area of 288 acres (117 ha) at an elevation of 927 feet (283 m) above mean sea level. It has one asphalt paved runway designated 5/23 which measures 5,800 by 100 feet (1,768 x 30 m). For the 12-month period ending August 31, 2008, the airport had 27,605 aircraft operations, an average of 75 per day: 99% general aviation and 1% military. At that time there were 28 aircraft based at this airport: 71% single-engine, 14% multi-engine, 4% jet and 11% helicopter.

RAIL:
 Main line rail service is provided to Somerset by the Norfolk Southern System, whose services include main line, one northbound and one southbound freights which stop daily, 30 through freights daily, switching facilities, team track space for 14 cars and ample siding space.

HIGHWAYS:
 Major highways serving Somerset are U.S. Highway 27, the Cumberland Parkway,  Kentucky Routes 80 and 461. Interstate Highway 75 is accessible 28 miles east, via Kentucky 80; and 28 miles northeast, via Kentucky 461. Fifteen trucking companies provide interstate and/or intrastate service to the area.
